Ministocks first started out as an adult class in Wanganui, but was quickly adopted as a youth class by many Speedway Tracks around the North Island of New Zealand with a few South Island tracks following suit.

Ministocks are a scaled down version of their big brothers "Stockcars" with the emphasis on providing a low cost racing class with rules that allow all cars and drivers the ability to compete without unfair advantages.

Ministocks must run the same basic chassis with running gear coming from donor cars which must be either Datsun 1200, 120Y, Nissan Sunny1200 or Toyota Corolla or Starlet 1200 (3K engine). The rules are plain, simple and the level of enjoyment for the kids, families and spectators is high.

A.Y.M.A. is based at Waikaraka Park Speedway in Onehunga, Auckland and Ministocks are quickly becoming the biggest growth class in New Zealand Speedway. The Ministocks compete on Saturday nights as well as their having regular Sunday training days.

The Association is strong on development of the kids racing and some of the programs for the kids include,
* Social Events
* Speedway NZ Racing Rules
* Chassis Set Up
* Fire Safety
* Race Safety
* Race Craft & Skills
