The first night of the Teams Nationals saw some excellent racing. The two unbeaten teams on the night are the Auckland All Stars and Baypark Busters.

The Baypark Busters are going for three wins at the Nationals in a row. In their semi-final tomorrow night they will meet either Hawkes Bay or Waikato, which ever of those teams wins their repercharge.

The Auckland All Stars much to the delight of the local fans came up trumps and won against the Bounty Hunters and Waikato. The All Stars, in their semi-final will meet the winner of the repercharge between Rotorua and Wanganui.

The Bounty Hunter and Renegade teams have both suffered two losses each and will race off for the winner spoon.

The racing was fast (both the Streetstocks and Saloons had their track records smashed) and thanks to the Saloon class who wheel packed the surface at the start of the meeting the track was relatively smooth.

The organisers were a little ambitious in their programming and the third race for each of the Saloon, Mini Sprints, MiniStox and Streetstock classes had to be cancelled to get the meeting over before the curfew hour of 10-30 p.m. The fans however went home happy. There 102 race cars in the pits plus five pit bike racers who gave the crowd some high jumps and a couple of races with a jump and chicane added to the BullRing oval.

A full review of the action will be published in the May issue of the NZDTR and the April 2nd edition of the weekly Waikaraka Speedway programme.
