|Having received our Speedway NZ Track Licence on Thursday, thirty plus racecars were on hand for the first official practice of the season, with most classes being there to start sorting out and testing their combinations before the opening night on October 8th, 2005.
The Auckland registered cars made up the bulk of the numbers and it was good to see them all keen to get going.
Neville McNabb (31A Minisprint) was on hand with his new car.
Other drivers who were present in the Std Stock class included 96A Jamie Fergusson, 5A Brad Ridland, 12A Mike Stanaway, to name a few.
Five Modifieds were also on hand for the first practice, a good turnout, numbers in the Modified class sound promising this season.
Four Minisprints and three Streetstocks (two with the number 5A, with one up for sale as we believe Erin Gribble has purchased another car) were also on hand testing, with more to appear during the subsequent practices.
Nine Youth Ministocks were also present. Numbers for this class look very promising this season, it is fantastic to see these youngsters out there giving it a go.
An ex Tony McLanachan Superstock was also on hand, being recently purchased out of the Hawkes Bay. Looking awesome in blue, with signage to be added.
Also present was a Western Springs midget, being peddled by Dave Harding.
Notable visitors were Steve Williams (Saloon 21H), and Wayne Lucey (Superstock 18H) in the ex Bryce Steiner "Steiny Grenade", both of these cars were on the pace straight off the trailer.
