|NZ Modified Grand Prix & Telstra Clear DHL Saloon Series Auckland Round.
New Years Eve, fine but windy weather overhead for this end of year bash which would conclude with a memorable Fireworks Display.
Classes running were Saloons & Modifieds for the above listed events, also supporting were Streetstocks, Ministocks, Minisprints, & Std Stocks.
10 streetstocks presented to race over 2 events with wins to 54a Merv Lewis & 12a Mark McNabb, the evening's stirring started right from lap 1, race 1.
9 of these racecars presented to race over 3 events with 2 wins to 31a Neville McNabb & the feature going to 11k Alvin Cobb.
20 of these junior racers presented to race over 2 events with wins to 86a Mass Young & 65a Adam Mills.
These young drivers raced wheel to wheel with contact meaning complete chaos as they all tried to avoid each other while trying for the chequered flag.
16 of these meddlesome machines presented to race over 3 events with 2 wins to 99a Grant Littlewood & the feature to 34a Mark Wearing, the stirrer of the night had to go to 441a Andrew Weir as he continually caused chaos all night as he took shots at will at anyone he chose to have a go at, the crowd loved it.
15 cars presented to race over 3 heats & a dash for cash in this the Auckland Round of The Telstra Clear DHL Saloon Series with 1 win to 98h Greg Powell & 2 wins to 48m Phil Towgood.
The DHL Danzas Saloon Dash for Cash over 8 laps was taken by 10h Bryce Louden.
These drivers raced hard out wheel to wheel all night but in heat 2 car 17m of Tony Heuvel launched himself high up the back straight fence and came crashing down heavily onto the track, Tony was OK but his car looked a little worse for wear.
The round was taken by 48m Phil Towgood.
With the NZ Mod champs in Christchurch only a week away just 14 cars were on hand to contest the 2006 NZ Modified Grand Prix.
Racing over 3 heats these guys gave it their all with aggressive wheel to wheel racing with the devil take the hindmost.
Wins went the way of 19r Scott Lane taking 1 win & 59a Alan Haigh taking 2 wins & thus taking the NZ Modified Grand Prix.
The most spectacular crash of the night came in heat 1 when 1nz Tony Galbraith had a huge crash in cemetery bend after flipping wildly through mid air his Mod finished upside down on the concrete wall, Tony was OK but his car looked rather sad, hopefully he will be able to get it repaired in time to defend his NZ title in Christchurch next weekend.
4 Super Saloons were on hand to do a few laps testing prior to the NZ Super Saloon Champs being held at Bay Park on January 2 & 3, 2006,16a remained in the pits while 96a, 38a, & 91a appeared trackside.
After all the trophies had been presented the meeting concluded with a spectacular Fireworks display to round out 2005 & help bring in 2006.
This meeting was a really good one to end 2005, the rapidly increasing crowd stayed right until after the Fireworks and went away satisfied as there were fireworks both on & off the track.
All racing was clean, fast & in good spirit.
