|February 25, 2006 - Superstock Series & Saloons Gold Coast|
|Having cool weather overhead & a couple of light showers prior to race start with the showers moving off the meeting got underway, with a good spread of racecars pit side.
Classes running were Ltd Saloons, Stockcars, Superstocks, Modifieds, Streetstocks, & ATV quad bikes.
17 of these meddlesome machines fronted to race over 3 heats with wins shared between 168a Billy Neill with 2 wins & 71a taking the feature, this car was pedaled Murray Kitt who is one of the car sponsors & also crew members, the highlight of this racing was in heat 2 when 91r Jamie Bromley was taken into the pit gate wall & was upended lying on his side, there was stirring going on all night here, the 14a car was pedaled all night by 12a streetstock driver Mark McNabb & talking to him after the meeting he said he had a ball.
13 of these machines fronted to race over 3 heats with 45a Bill Peat taking 2 wins & 36a Lyndon Morrison taking the feature, a lot of the expected aggression was removed when 12a Mark McNabb broke his diff in the first heat.
ATV quad bikes:
A whole gaggle of these machines fronted to race over 4 events with wins shared between bikes 3 & 4, the highlight was when one of the machines rolled in cemetery bend & good on the rider he got straight back on & carried on racing much to the delight of the crowd present.
Having a lot of the cars in Wellington for the Leisurerite series only 7 cars were on hand to race over 3 heats with wins shared between 33a Chris Drube, 19r Scott Lane & the feature to 78a Ray Chatfield, in this event the 19r car was handicapped 1 lap behind but Scotty still managed to storm back to 2nd place when the chequered flag fell.
Saloon Gold Coast Series:
17 of these cars fronted to race in the 3 heat series where at the end of racing the car that had made the most passes during the racing the driver won 2 tickets to the Gold Coast in Australia, wins in this series were shared between 79m Mike Griffiths, 58a Gavin Hinsley & the feature to 63a Nigel Mouat, the overall winner in this series with the most passes was 58a Gavin Hinsley, so he is off to the Gold Coast, the podium finishers were:
1st: 58a Gavin Hinsley.
2nd: 79m Mike Griffiths.
3rd: 101h [10h] Bryce Louden.
Also during this racing the super saloon 4a of Reece Jones raced from the tail of the field doing a few hot laps to test his car.
Superstocks Final Round $15000.00 Series:
15 of these high powered steelbenders fronted to race over 3 hard fought heats to see who would take out the $15,000.oo series as this was the final round there would be no prisoners taken here as in heat 2 series leader 515r Stan Hickey was rolled onto his side in pit turn although he did manage to win the first heat with 66r taking 2 wins including the feature, I believe the 66r car was pedaled by 46p driver Kelvin Gray.
Heat results were:
Race 1 1st 515r, 2nd 66r, 3rd 99a, 4th 119r.
Race 2 1st 66r, 2nd 86h, 3rd 99a, 4th 414a.
Race 3 1st 66r, 2nd 119r, 3rd 515r, 4th 414a.
Overall standing top 3 were:
1st 515r Stan Hickey
2nd 119r Kerry Remnant
3rd 99a Mark Decke
Cars racing in final round were 7r , 99a, 86h, 24h, 23h, 816h, 515r, 119r, 53a, 73a, 271h, 75a, 66r, 414a, & 36a, car 7r was driven by 14n driver, Dale Ewers.
Overall this meeting was a good one with all racing being clean, fast & in good spirit.
Congratulations to all winners but you know us your all winners for just competing.
With most other tracks running car numbers were spread far & wide so it was a credit to Frank Irvine & his dedicated crew to get the car numbers that we had on hand
